Got something

I had to reinstall Linux 'cause of needs (disk space), and when reinstalling, the system detects the soundcard, BUT when "playing the test sound", NO DAMN SOUND. I had the BIOS with PNP OS disabled, the manual says that i has the sound driver compiled on the kernel, what happens?

The card uses the VIA VT8235 chipset, Direct Sound AC97 audio.

Thanks!!:)

I had the same problem with my AC97. I just ran the 'sndconfig' command from terminal and then everything worked great.

well, i've tried that before, but the command tells me that there is no such device, it detects it, but when trying to activate it, just says it is not there:eek:

thanks for the help, really apreciated.

any more ideas?:)

hrmm.. are you from #linux on irc.openprojects.net at like 11:00 AM EST this morning :)

Somebody had the exact same problem.

Check the permissions/ownership of /dev/dsp

you want your user to be part of the group(usually audio), and for the owner and group to have r/w access, and for others to have no access
