Hello all!
I just wanted to ask if anyone knows what in the world this means:
Code: 89 43 04 89 18 52 e8 00 ff ff ff 39 f3 58 89 da 75 e9 89 36
<0>Kernel panic: Aiee killing interpt handler!
In interupt handler - not syncing
spurious 8259A interupt: IRQ7
I'm having this issue when trying to install Redhat on my Abit KG7-RAID
Thanks in advance for any help...
Phil
Try passing the "noapic" option to the kernel at install time. That option and other options you might try are described here (http://linuxline.epfl.ch/Doc/beta/RH-DOCS/rhl-ig-x86-en-8.0.93/ch-bootopts.html).
The problem could lie elsewhere though; please post your full hardware/system specs.

Sure
Singularity 3.2:
AMD 1.4 GHz "Thunderbird"
512 MB PC 2100 Crucial
Abit KG7-RAID
40GB IBM GXP60 (IDE-1, Master) <removable HD Tray>
Gainward TI4600
Linksys nic
C-Media soundcard (Win-XP SP-1 HATED my SB Live!)
<Now I hate Win-XP.....funny.....>
Toshiba DVD (IDE-1, Slave)
Lite-On 32x12x48 (IDE-2)
The fact that I have a Removeable Hard Drive tray shouldn't mess w/ anything...should it?
Phil
Have you tried installing with the "noapic" option yet? If not, please do so before we try anything else. The 8259A mentioned in the error message is the APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Chip); disabling it with the noapic option has solved problems similar to yours.
If that doesn't work, another thing to try is to remove/disconnect any peripheral devices and cards before you attempt the install; they can always be reinstalled and configured once you get the system stable.
I've seen other issues (which generate similar error messages) with abit motherboards and onboard ATA/RAID controllers, but I'll have to do a little more research on those. As I said, let us know what happens when you try the noapic option before we delve into those.

Oh dear lord.....
I can't seem to get noapic to work properly!!
Is there some trick to this or am I just being stupid?
BTW, thanks for all the help DMR.

Did you enter noapic at the boot prompt?
To use any of the boot options presented here, type the command you wish to invoke at the installation boot: prompt.
For example:
boot: noapic
Thanks for the follow-up Mike; it's been a busy day and I haven't had a chance to get back to this one.

Could it be because I'm trying to install RH 8 from the budled disks that came with The Redhat Linux 8 Bible?

at the boot prompt your should type
linux noapic [ENTER]
That should solve it ;)

Tried that leonpmu...or at least i think I did...might have mashed the keys while typing...you never know :p
I'll try it again tonight when I get home...
If this doesn't work should I try flashing the BIOS or should I just give up and sacrifice my rig to the god of fire and balloons?
hehe-j/k...

It's definitely possible; while the CDs that come with the RH "Bible" books seem to have a better track record than most, disks that come bundled with books or magazines are generally less reliable than those from a boxed set or a properly burned ISO download.
Also,
- The removeable drive tray or the RAID might be an issue, but I can't say for sure.
- Have you disabled Plug-N-Play support and Power Management in your BIOS before attempting the install?

no i have not disabled those...but i will certainly try....
Do you think that flashing the BIOS may help?
Try re-installing after disabling the BIOS options I mentioned (as well as researching the possiblity of RAID/removeable drive incompatibility issues) before flashing the BIOS; a BIOS upgrade wouldn't be my first choice as a solution.
I'm sorry I can't delve more deeply into this tonight, but...
A) Being a moderator, I still have admin work to do here before I can sign off and relax for the evening.
B) Contrary to popular myth, we LNO/JustLinux old-timers really do have "off-line" lives, and right now my girlfriend is telling me that the dinner I helped her make is ready for munching, so off I go to chow.
See if the BIOS options make a difference, let us know the results, and I'll check back in tomorrow.

Oh, no prob....I'm gonna continue messing with it for a while.....
I downloaded the RH8.0 ISOs last night, so I'll give those a shot, but its not looking promising. I tried installing Mandrake 8.2 on it last night too (burned ISOs) to no avail...I'll keep you all updated, but i might just build myself a "new" "old-rig"...I'm thinking I can get my hands on a nice P-III MoBo for next to nothin.....
That Abit board has always been a pain in the A$$ anyway = )
Thanks again for all the help...

Oh well....THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!
Most Appreciatively,

I will, no doubt, have MANY more problems before too long so this isn't really goodbye!
PS: Gehidore I appreciate you saving me a couple of hundred $
