What can I do to make KDE go faster?

I am using KDE 3 and RedHat 8.0.

Use kde 3.1

What kernel are you using?

Turn off the default eye candy.
See my post here

Then turn of services you don't need.

KDE 3.1 to be slower than 3.0.0 for me, but that could be specific to my computer and installation.

it's important to use the kernel concurrent with the kde release
2.4.20 for kde3.1

to speed up loading time I've found the two things that help the most are using a kde thats been compiled with gcc3 and using prelink.
i setup prelink using the docs from gentoo available here: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/prelink-howto.xml

you can find prelink here: http://freshmeat.net/projects/prelink/?topic_id=253
