Am attempting to install on a 40GB HDD and have used Partition Magic 8.0 to
carve out 6GB of space for Linux ext2 and the swap. I rebooted back into WinME
and configured BootMagic to identify the partitions as Linux and then rebooted
into the first RedHat installation disk. I am okay until I get to the Disk
Partitioning Setup window where it gives you the options of automatic, manual
with disk druid, or manual with fdisk. I started down the manual with disk
druid path, but it did not want to install Red Hat in the partition that I had
created with Partition Magic. It wanted to create its own. Is there a way to
use the created partition or should I just go back into Partition Magic and
delete the ext2 and swap partitions and then use the automatic partitioning
when I try to install Red Hat again? Thanks for any help you can provide.

That's always the way I do it. PM then install.

When I install Linux, distro doesn't matter. Just pick advanced/custom partitioning. Then quit it and point / to /dev/hda*. Most distros will detect the swap auto.

Did you hide ext2 part.? Show me your setup of the HD.

I let it do an automativ partitioning on the 6GB space. It should be able to remove that partition and create 3 others from it ( "/" "/boot" and "swap")

It should give an option of what partition to use for this (hda1 for example)
And Red Hat uses ext3 by default, but it should be able to handle that on it's own.
