I first time using Linux... But need to upgrade my kenerl to 2.4.XX for USB support.... Pls help...

What kernel currently you use (uname -r)?If it is 2.2.18 the USB backport it's in and most likely you have all the USB modules... /lib/modules/'uname -r'/usb is the place where they reside.

If you still want to do the 2.4.2 kernel then make sure to READ a lot or you'll run into problems...see kernel NHF's and search the forums.Finally in your kernel tree /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes verify that the utils are up to date.Hope this helps and welcome in.

Also take a look at the mandrake users guilde available at
www.mandrake.com (http://www.mandrake.com)

under documentation select the users guide

chapter 14 is all about doing just this.

I'm planning on doing same (but starting from 7.2) -- let us know how it goes
