CUPS problems

OK, I've installed Mandrake 7.2 and can deal with the screwy menus but not being able to setup my printer is not acceptable. I've installed and tried to Configure CUPS but couldn't get the loopback device working. I've since dumped out all Cups info and tried to get lpd again and had it set as the default spooler but print commands give back an error of Unknown printer lpr: lp: lp:
What am I missing? And has anyone got the lpd going? :confused:

Lot's of info here http://www.linuxprinting.org/ on printing which may help you. Don't have too much experience setting up Linux printers myself, except printing through Netware.
