hello,

i have just installed linux mandrake.
everything went fine with the installation.
but when i first tried to boot it, it halted at the following point:
"searching for module dependencies"
(i hope, i translated correctly, since i have the german version installed).

however, does anyone know what that means and how to fix it? i am a total newbie, thats why i chose mandrake ;-)

thanks

guido

When Linux boots, it loads modules (drivers) that are specified in i.e. /etc/modules.conf and /etc/rc.d/rc.modules among others. The modules are checked against /lib/modules/<kernel version>/modules.dep to see which modules need to be loaded first, second etc.

Unless you have hardware that Linux is having problems loading the necessary modules, it's really hard to tell what the problem could be.

Can you see any other error messages? Try switching to the other virtual consoles to see if you can find anything else that would indicate what the problem is. ctrl-alt-f1 - f6.

Try disabling PnP OS in the bios.

Also tell us more about your hardware.
