Im just nervous wondering if im getting A good Linux Distribution. It will be my first time with linux. Been looking forward to trying Linux for a long time now. (First, to be pedantic: "Storm Linux" is the name of the distribution, "Stormix" is the name of the company that produces it)
Anyway, Storm might be an okay starter distro -- I'm of the opinion that everyone should start with pure Debian, use pure Debian, and die using pure Debian, but you might enjoy Storm... it's Debian enough for most people.

I'm not sure how you're ordering your copy, but I would suggest looking around first, and seeing if you can't find it cheaper in the stores around you. I haven't heard anything particulary bad about storm, but I've also not heard anything particularly good. Perhaps more importantly, if you are just starting out, it may be easier to find help on one of the larger distros, even if you have to deal with some of the problems involved. (Problems are a good way to learn, by the way.) http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
On the other hand, Mandrake has it's problems, but it has a decent rep other than the most current version. SuSE seems to be a good distro as well, in fact, that's going to be the one I try next, mostly because of the huge number of progs packaged with them, and the lack of serious complaints that I've seen. I've tried Redhat and wasn't impressed, and mandrake 7.1 is good, but I don't like the way they seem to have tossed together the last distro.
On a different level, perhaps you should try a different avenue of obtaining a distro. I haven't seen a storm distro in the stores too often (CompUSA had a couple a while back), but computer stores arent the only place to obtain linux. If you have a good sized bookstore near you, many times you can get a nice hefty manual (versus the smaller ones in most distros) and a GPL'd (stripped of proprietary, but not necessarily a bad) copy of a popular distro, complete with online help from the publisher. My mandrake distro is this, and it cost me $18.95.
Another good way to get it is a linux user group. Although you might be too young to get there on your own, it may even be a benefit to have your dad go with you, even if he doesn't understand a word about linux. Most LUGers are more than willing to part with a copy of a distro they have, a copy of it, or even one they tried but felt it was too simplified for them, but would be good for a newbie. Your dad may even like to see what you're involved with. Also, it doesn't hurt to show him that you aren't just "playing video games" as my dad would put it, but that many of the people that use linux also have jobs that pay some serious cash. This may help convince him that any money he spends is worth it.
Anyways, the point is, with all the new linux changes out recently (2.4 kernel, kde 2.0, etc.) you may want to get a less expensive distro if you can, and wait till teh new changes are installed to spend your hard-begged money. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif Notice I don't suggest waiting though. You should start working on learning linux as soon as you can, regardless of the promised changes coming up, because if you wait for the next ones, you'll never get it, as fast as Linux is improving.
Good luck though. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

First time? Then use `Drake to start. Use it for about 3 months. Then when you think you are the ****, switch to Slackware!

Get SuSE. It's easy to configure and you get a huge amount of apps with it.

I agree. The packaging system as got to be the best. It is heaps more intelligant then the rpm packaging system as the exact file name of the rpm is not required and the packaging system is the easiest to configure to get updates.

Then, after three months using Slackware, decide you need to stop wasting time and get real work done, and upgrade to Debian.
