ok,

HELP!

er, at the moment, my desktop box has winXP pro on it. Not wanting to get into the whole which is best arguement, suffice to say I want to try linux in the desktop environment, and I can't get it set up.

My system is an abit at7 max2 with a 160gb disk on hdc. The disk is already partitioned 80gb/80gb with ntfs and ext2. But now I am stuck. The partioning was done with partitionmagic, and neither of the installs I have played with (debian & slack) are even pretending to happy. cfisk only reports the disk as being 137gb big and that is only if I use a new paritiontable which means I'll lose windows - I really can't afford to do that.

I'm really hoping some-one has done something similar and can help!

try this. take the ext2 space and just clear it. leave it so you have your 80gb windows partition and only free space, and then try the installer.

(for 2 good tutorails on debian, check out debianplanet.org)
