I'm soon getting a wireless internet connection. The router that they are going to supply will only allow 5 computers to access the internet. I thought that I will just setup a firewall, so that the router will only see the firewall. How would I go about in doing this? Would I have to mess with that proxy stuff? How would I set it up?
To avoid any cofusion here is my "thought out" setup.

There has to be someone thats done this before. Its similar to a cable or dsl setup.

The structure of the configuration seems logically ok, I don't think I'm sure what you're asking. If you're going to have a firewall anywhere then the best place to put it is between your access point and the rest of your network so that even though the access point is somewhat insecure you'll always have the firewall as a buffer. I say go ahead with your configuration.
Note: I'm not an expert on wireless networks, I only know common information about them. However, I have an instructor who does network security for a university here in Toronto and I asked him one day how he secured against warchalkers. He said that he used a configuration similar to the one you mentioned because even though the access points are open to everyone, they still have to get into the network and by his firewall.

Thank you for your response. My question has to do with on how I would configure this.
