lost my cd burner after installing new kernel

After compiling and installing 2.4, I lost my cd burner. Is there a module that needs to by compiled into the kernel to use a burner. Other that that, my kernel new works fine.

If this is an IDE burner you need to have generic SCSI support in the kernel or installable as module, also your boot loader LILO/GRUB needs to be appended with "hXX=ide-scsi" (where hXX is your CDRW), chances are the append is still there.

If your CDRW is in fact a SCSI drive then probably you did not configure SCSI properly when you did the make config
