I have a KT3 Ultra2 mainboard with a built in Via 3059 and ALC650 Audio codec. I cannot get sound in MDK8.1
and would like to.
Are there tutorials for this?

Tutorials are located on the right side of the screen under Linux Help Files.

Thanks! I will dig through them. I heard somewhere that there are linux drivers for the sound chipset. Is that true?

Also, after I added in all that new hardware (mainboard, cpu, etc.) the boot started taking longer, and hangs for a while after initial new hardware detection. It goes from "Detecting new hardware" to just a "[K" and that is all. Then I get an error about "Hardware detection time-out" and it moves on to something else. How do I get it to detect the new hardware properly?

Thanks,
ET

I've seen other threads posted here on the ALC650. Try searching the JL forums for ALC650 and see what you can find.

First ensure you have PnP OS disabled in the bios.

I reinstalled MDK 8.1 because of some problems that arose, and now I get partial sound (boot up and shut down sound effects, as well as sounds in a few games), but other than that, nada.

Also, reinstalling fixed the boot-up problem.

Any help for the sound?

Have you tried any of the suggestions in the previous sound related threads?

There have been thousands of them which you can find with a quick JL forum search.

I restarted Linux and it works fine now (?). I did nothing. Before almost no sounds worked, but now it works fine. All I did was restart. Wierd.
