Three weeks into attempting to install Mandrake 7.2 and I still can't get it to work properly. I'm using a HP 3210 laptop and trying to do a lnx4win install.
The only settings I can get graphics to work on is 8 bit and 800x600 generic LCD. When it loads I get a garbled desktop but any pop up menu appears perfect. The it eventually freezes the screen. I've tried everything I can think of and just wondering if anybody has any suggestions?

It sounds like your monitor and/or video card are the problem... I think Mandrake has something like "Xconfigurator" that lets you change it easily.
I'd try choosing the video card that you actually have, and then just a generic SVGA monitor rather than an LCD monitor. Try to get it as generic as possible (but SVGA, not LCD). If that doesn't work, you might want try selecting a generic video card too.
Check out this site to see if it has any info of use to you, I know it did for me when I worked on my laptop.

Also do a search on www.google.com (http://www.google.com) for linux laptops and see what kind of info you get.
Good luck, linux on laptops takes a little patience.

I had lots of problems with Mandrake on my Dell laptop, but finnally got it working...anyway,
Use XF86Config instead of XConfigurator and make sure (if your using LILO) to set vga=792 in lilo.cfg (I think) to enable framebuffer during bootup
That may work...good luck
