I have only had my Linux box up a couple of weeks. All that time I have been using mozilla (mainly because tabs are sweet) to read slashdot. However know mozilla gets redirected to www.digimedia.com!

I can open slashdot with Konqeror but I really need tabs to enjoy all the slashdot goodness! So how the hell are they redirecting me? I have deleted all the cookies and my cache and cut back on script prileveges. I havent even installed any plugins.

That is strange.

And familiar.

I ran into this with my laptop running Windows XP rather than my Linux box, however. It often went to the same place.... digimedia.

How I fixed it was to clear my cache and tell Explorer to load content every time (or something to that effect) in the options rather than using its cache. All my pages then started loading properly.

I also reset my router in this mess, but that did not seem to be the problem.

You might also wanna try galeon. It has all the features of mozilla. (same rendering engine too) With some extras that are pretty nice. You can block images from certain servers with a right click and you can make your own google toolbar type thing for any site.

Phoenix is real nice too. It is based on Mozilla, but runs faster (I think). I would not think this has anything to do with your browser. Just as kind of a strange thought, there is one way you can find out.

1. Ping slashdot.org
2. Make note of the IP
3. Type the IP directly into your web browser.

Might bring Slashdot up. Curious to see as this sorta smells like a DNS issue.

The first thing I did was ping slashdot and use the IP but it still loaded digimedia. However after clearing my cache and deleting all my cookies I got onto slashdot today. I dont think it is a DNS problem as Konqueror can load it fine.

Does mozilla maintain it's own hosts file,
ie a domain name to ip list to speed up
frequent dns queries?

Only explanation that would make sense
to me.

Sounds like you may have a spyware problem. I had the same problem with a place called Xupiter. Their spyware was running me through their proxy. Every once in a while I would get redirected to their page. It even installed their own taskbars. All of this happened without me knowing or without my confirmation. Try running a spyware/adware removal tool. ( I don't know of one for Linux, my problem was in Windoze. )
