I am a beginner to Linux. I have downloaded the ISO files for 8.0 from the RetHat FTP site and am now trying to install. I also have downloaded boot.img and used rawrite to disk. Every time I reboot my PC with the boot disk in the setup program starts. I then hit enter at the boot prompt and I keep geeting a "Loading Boot Failed" message. I have tryed it with several fresh copies of boot.img on new disks. The only thing I have not done is wipe out the XP installation I already have on the PC. Could this be the problem??? Does the RH Linux setup include a utility to format/partition??

Do you have a cdwriter so you can burn the iso image(s) to a cdr(w) and start the installation from cd instead of using the bootdisk image?

You need to change your BIOS settings to make the CDROM drive bootable. Usually there is a list of boot devices, you must make sure it comes above the harddisk.

How exactly did you burn the iso images to the cd's using what burner program?
Sounds like maybe a problem with the cd's.

u can use nero it burns it directly to cd, and is easy for anyone to do i use it for all my burning processes, u can also download isobuster, from www.isobuster.com , www.downloads.com ; what iso buster does is it extracts the images for u and then u can extract them to your hard drive
