ok. i have takin my first whack at kernel compilation. the 'make' steps all went fine, cept when i edit my lilo.conf and run lilo i get:

blah# lilo

Added floppy
Added old
Added new
No images have been defined

blah#

when i boot i dont get the option for the bran spankin new kernel or the old crusty stinky one.

i used the Kernel NHF off LN, and another quite extensive Linux Kernel HOWTO off Linux Doc Project.

"i did the work, im not a slacker". "baby steps to the kernel compilation, baby steps t........"

Did you get the formatting in lilo.conf alright?
Could it be the line "image = /boot/vmlinuz.foo" is mangled or missing suddenly?

When asking what's wrong with your lilo.conf, it would be really super-deluxe swell if you could post your lilo.conf. Thanks tons.

the linux machine in Q is at my work location unfortunatly, and i wont get back to it till monday.

as far as the vmlinuz.foo, i saw not of this entry.

again, i followed the NHF here off Linuxnewbie, and about to the T. "about" = the NHF assumed i was changing kernel versions, but i was simply adding kernel support in the flavor of a patch.

Yeah, posting your lilo.conf file would be snazzy. Do you have a "default=old" line or something near the top of the file?

no. i tried default=old, new, and left it as linux to no avail.

what i can say about the lilo file is that its not much differant than the default, and it has been modified only by what the NHF on LN instructed.
