Yeah... the .fi mirror doesn't work. (Finland) And all other sites are VEEE-EER-YYY slow. So no RealPlayer for me now http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif

B_G - *BSD has really good emulation for Linux binaries, IIRC. And most well-written Linux programs will compile under *BSD (provided the appropriate libraries are available) without too much fuss. Unfortunately, a number of Linux programs aren't well-written in this respect. Or the authors get prickly and refuse to support BSDs. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif Fortunately, GNOME has good BSD support, so most GNOME and GTK programs will run in BSD-land.

I've had no problems running Linux apps compiled from source. But I wasn't sure about a closed source app. I tried to install a 5250 emulator that is supposed to run on Red Hat 6.1, but won't run in FreeBSD. Being closed, I can't just go in and find out why it won't run. It isn't like I can check the make errors. So after that failure, getting Real Player to run was a nice surprise.
