Whenever I log on, my background image is always blank, as if the OS can't see the file that I've indicated to use. When I go into the GNOME Backround Properties panel, the wallpaper I like to use is selected and shows up in the preview window, but it doesn't actually show up on my desktop unless I change an option, change it back (which enables the OK button), then click OK (switching to "Scaled" then back to "Centered" or something similar works just fine). I'm running Debian 3.0r1 (Woody) with all updates installed and the latest compatible version of Fluxbox.

This sounds like a permission problem to me. Are you trying to make the changes as root or as a normal user?

Make which changes? I log on as a normal user, then just open the dialog in which to pick a wallpaper, and then the wallpaper magically appears (I tried it again just now, and it seems to appear now even without deselecting and selecting it...it appears on my desktop if I just OPEN the Background Properties window now). I'm not root for any of this.

I haven't played with Flux in a while. But if memory serves (which it frequently decides not to :) ) then it may be similar to blackbox. A lot of the styles files require "esetroot" which I didn't have. I modified the styles file with "bsetbg" in it's place and it worked like a charm. May not be applicable in this case, but thought I would spit it out there in the event it was beneficial.
