Ok, I don't know if this is the right or wrong way to do it (I'm a newbie), but here's how I did it under Mandrake 9.1 RC1 in KDE.
Right click on the Desktop, choose Configure Desktop. On the Behavior sheet, Check "Display Devices on Desktop", check "Mounted Hard Disc Partition" (I'm sure this is the right one, but I had checked all of them to be safe).
Lo and behold, "Hard Disc (hda1) mounted at /mnt/windows" showed up on the desktop (among others), and I was able to get in there just fine, as well as access my MP3s which are on my NTFS partition, and they're playing great.
Hope this helps someone else out there. It drove me nuts for an entire day!
Leif.

good for you!! I was having a hard time getting my NTFS partition to mount due to RH 8 kernel not supporting it out of the box. I managed to find a pre-compiled kernel that would support NTFS. Anyways, I managed to have it automount on startup and even have a nice little icon on my dektop by editing my /etc/fstab file. my line looks like this in there
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win ntfs auto,uid=500,gid=500,rw 0 0
add that in your /etc/fstab and it will automount, it's very nice to have!!

My ntfs worked just fine for me right out of the box! I have mdk 9.0 and I don't see the behavior part when I configure desktop so I put the icons on the desktop another way. I opened home and went up a couple directories to / then went in /mount and finally /mnt/nt I then dragged the little icon in the address bar to the desktop hoping it would work like it does in windows and it does! I now have links to my fat32 partition and my ntfs partition on my desktop.

I'm not a big fan of Mandrake. The installs for me worked just fine, and it supported my ntfs right out of the box as well, unfortunately, I had no mouse support. Odd, yes I know. The drivers worked fine for it during the install but once I actually booted in, they stopped working. I was to add a special line in a config file, but coulnt get to it cause I couldnt open a command window. so I stuck with RH

my mouse worked just fine except for the scroll wheel. Actually, I changed that one line to IMPS/2 and it made my mouse stick in the upper right hand corner and I couldne move it anywhere else. Luckily I was able to make it to a prompt while in kde and change it back. Then as soon as I found the zaxis thing I was golden.
