New to Linux...very slick desktop KDE. Having modem problems. Gave up on Winmodems. Compusa had a 56K external for $55. By the way no help in Rochester NY store. I said Linux they looked like I was speaking in tongues. Modem works however but it takes forever to hookup and sometimes will not go past 4800. It sometimes hooks at 49,000 My phone line works fine windows hooks at 50,666 with no problem. Anything in kppp I can try. Thank you......

Might try to determine what init string Win is using and insert that in kppp and see what happens.

Perhaps the Tweaking your Modem (http://justlinux.com/nhf/Modems/Tweaking_Your_Modem_with_MTU_and_MRU.html) JL Help File will offer suggestions.
