I installed COL 2.4 this weekend, and it worked flawlessly first time out...video, built in ethernet card, sound, my Microsoft Intellimouse (wheel version), video settings---perfect, just perfect. Mandrake didn't, and I'm an admitted newbie, so this is why I went with COL. I've always liked them anyway...

After doing some network configurations, I noticed that the box wasn't talking to the hub (I was trying to set up Samba). Not being sure of the command to stop and start network services, I downed the box (gracefully) and brought it back up. That did it for the network.

BUT---the mouse is now crazy. The pointer lives in the far upper right hand side of the screen. It's connected to the box through a KVM switch. I managed to login and use the keyboard to get into the system settings, but nothing seems off. I downed it, and installed a mouse on the box itself instead of through the KVM---a different, plain vanilla mouse. Same problem.

I'm not really looking to use it as a desktop---yet. The server features are more compelling, but I WOULD like to have a working desktop as a hopping off point.

Any suggestions anyone? If I move the pointer fast enough over a window it acts as though a mouse button is being clicked very fast on that window----and it's not the mouse because it works well in Windows.

The machine is a Compaq Deskpro 233MMX...

Thanks.

A couple of things you can check. Is gpm running? Use COAS to check and disable if necessary.

Verify your /etc/XF86Config mouse section has the correct protocol.

Section "Pointer"
Protocol "IMPS/2"
Device "/dev/psaux"
Buttons 5
ZAxisMapping 4 5

Been using Caldera since 1.3 and am very pleased with 2.4. Everything usually works right out of the box.

Short version- CLI Mouse Driver. It lets you use the mouse in console apps, but often screws up X.
