I started out with Win98, then installed Mandrake, now I want to put win2K on for a tripple boot. How do I go about doing this without screwing anything up ( ie. win2k overwriting the boot sector on the HD ) ?

How do I go about doing this without screwing anything up ( ie. win2k overwriting the boot sector on the HD ) ? I have something similar, except there is no Win98 on my box. I installed Linux on my second harddisk (a partition will also do) first, after I had it working I moved on to set up Win2000pro. To my surprise, it actually worked without making problems. It even left my MBR alone, even though I expected it to overwrite without asking. I was rather pleased to find that I only had to make a new entry in LILO for the first harddisk I put W2k on and reboot. I have to admint, W2k is much better for dual-/triple-/multiorwhatever-booting. It does much less damage if it doesn't "understand" something. scott_R 02-01-2001, 01:18 AM I've never done it, but as far as I know, if you're installing w2k on a computer with 98, it needs to load it's bootloader into the 98 partition. I can't help you anymore, but I know for fresh installs, they say to load 98, then w2k, then linux. Your computer will boot lilo, then you'll select windows, then the w2k will ask whether you want 98 or w2k. Hope this give you some idea of how to proceed. Now, say seven million hail mary's for being dumb...I mean naive enough to buy w2k. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ RTFM=Rewrite The F***ing Manual For more info, visit http://rute.sourceforge.net/ The snow's falling, and so is MS...:) justlinux.com
