Ok, this is going to be a wierd question but what kind of architecture does an as400 system use anyway?

I've used an as400 about 10 years ago in school, but never really got into the details of how it worked, etc....

So I'm curious about it. :)

There's a job that I found in the paper that needs knowlege about an as400 system as well as general pc upgrading and such. My weak area is the as400, so I'm looking for more info on it before I apply for the job. :D

they use propriety IBM hardware. some of them are really large.

sometimes they have those weird round terminal connectors going to dumb terminals but typically nowadays people loginto them from a terminal emulator.

(basically a mini-mainframe)

So do they have a whole ton of other commands to use them, or are they *nix-like?
