I have always been fine at software, but have NEVER tampered with hardware before. Are there any sitest to go to for working with hardware for beginners?

Any help would be appreciated.

The best way of learning how to put in hardware and such is read the books that come with the product. I was at first taught by my dad, on those old 486s. Ah, the days... The best thing is to open that case up and experiment! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

And remember - use proper size screw/nut drivers, and almost everything fits only one way. 95% of the time, no real force is required.

Spend the $300 it would cost to build a "slow" computer, with all Linux-OK parts. A slower AMD chip, a cheaper mobo, a 2-4gb drive (or whatever you have laying around), 32 or 64mb of ram, a known-easy vid card, a old used SoundBlaster 32, and a nic is all it takes, and you get to play with just about everything common hardware wise. Be sure to check the Hardware HOWTO or the HCL for your distro.

( I said nic instead of modem 'cause you already got one, and of course you would want to network them, right? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif )
