I can't get my computer (running winXP professional) to boot from the 1st disk of redhat, or any other bootable cd. The redhat disk works on my win98 box. I can get my winXP box to boot from a floppy, but not a cd. My bios has cdrom as the first boot device. Even if i take the first hard disk out of the boot order completely winXP still starts up. I installed winXP with a bootable cd; i don't know why i can't boot from cd's now.

I have award bios and a GA-7VAXP mainboard. I have an LG DVD/CD-RW combo drive.

In the bios my cdrom doesnt show up on the ide channels, and i can't find an option to detect it.

If you are in windows, insert cdrom1 and go the Dosutils directory. Use the program called rawritewin to create a boot floppy using the boot.img which is in the Images directory.

Does the CDROM drive function correctly in XP?

I would say try another bootable CD but if the BIOS can't detect it this probably will not work.

Could be a hardware problem with the drive or cable.
