Yeah...so I've heard about this "apt-get" thing and I wanna give Debian a shot. I downloaded the 7 images from some mirror today and i am curious as to how this install will differ from Red Hat's and anything that I need to do differently on a Debian system than Red Hat. Much like my Red Hat system, this Debian system will dual boot with WIndows 2000. Any comment is appreciated.

Read the Debian Installation Manual (http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/installmanual) . It's very, very helpful, and you'd be doing yourself a favour if you read it all through before you start.
I promise you, it's easy if you just read up and follow the instructions!
Things like dual boot should be pretty much the same as with Red Hat. Key difference would be that Debian still uses the LILO boot-loader by default, whereas Red Hat uses GRUB by default (I think).

The thing about apt-get is that you can build your system to your exact requirements, keeping it nice and neet, tidy and SLIM. After all what's the point in having all those apps on your system that your are never gonna use?
Upgrading and installing new packages are made very easy.
One point I would mention is that broadband /DSL/ cable would be a huge advantage for this o/s, but not a necessity.
It is certianly a distro to get you learning!!!!
Just re-read you post. Looks like you have a fast conenction - my advise to you the would be to install using disk one, and then add all the other apps that ~you~ want using apt-get.

But if you already have all 7 install CDs, you would only need to download Debian packages if you wanted to upgrade. You have equal control over what you install using the CD install - the only advantage of a net install would be newer package versions.

just a suggestion print out a copy of that install guide and use a highlighter when you read it :D its not that bad though, you might do a minimum install though if your just gonna be upgrading to sid or testing anyways or you want the newest software might as well only have to put in on the machine once
