This is emabarrassing for me to ask, but I am relatively new to Linux. What does /. mean, and it's significance?

Thanks,

I think your talking about http://www.slashdot.org/. It's a pretty cool Linux/Open Source hang out.

In case you meant ./ I haven't got the answer but I believe it runs the binary wherever it is located. Anyone with the correct answer?

/. is the website www.slashdot.org (http://www.slashdot.org)

./ means "this directory". So "./date" will execute the program "date" which is located in the current directory, rather than "/bin/date"
