elite_syntax - what exaclty are you trying to do?

Are you trying to configure your X server for use with you graphics card?

Do you know what kernel you are using ? uname -r will give you this.
which X-server are you using? - you can get this by opening your X server config file, usually found under /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ....for example

Its not that hard ..... if you have the Matrox Millennium G450, download the BETA_2.1 package.
I totally fail to see what may cause confusion in that grid, including all the info provided there?

The matrox drivers included in XFree and the linux kernel are excellent, matrox has been very good about allowing open source devlopers access to hardware info.

What do you need to download additional drivers for?

xinerama, DRI, fbdev, directfb all work with the included drivers.

Seems to be simple to decide which link to click on.

what is the problem your having?

and yes, I'm reasonably certain you can do whatever you want without downloading the companies driver. (it may require recompiling the kernel and/or X)

Why would you do that without trying it first?

if it doesn't work you can get the drivers later.

(it will work fine)
