okay peeps,

I installed VMware at the weekend and got it working, i put XP on it and I am using a NAT setup to use the internet on my XP.

When I try to ping my XP IP, from linux (Iam running Mandrake 9.0) it doesnt seem to work.

I need to set something up so that I can get accesss to the files that I have obtianed on the XP setup but cant get to them.

Some people have mentioned ftp, some people have mentioned samba, I installed samba but couldnt get it to work.

Any help is going to be useful here.

Thanks
Kenny

why don't you use one of the ftp servers that came with the distro?

Forgot the names off hand, but I'm pretty sure there is an ftp server in there that you can use.

Just search google, or these forums for questions and stuff..

The unfortunate thing here is that if you cannot ping the IP then you will not be able to FTP either.

When you installed the vmware did you enable the host networking option or are you running them both as separate "machines"? Can the XP install see the linux side?
Have you enabled the file sharing option from XP? Samba is the way I connect my RH8 machine to WinXP and Win2K.
