Still Having Mp3 Troubles!!!

I've installed newer versions of gtk and glib to make the Mp3 plugin happy, I've reinstalled XMMS. I've downloaded and installed the Mp3 plugin. I can now load Mp3 files into XMMS, but I still cannot play them. GRRAR! Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

What exactly does it tell you when you try to play them? Is it just that you don't hear anything but the file plays or something else? Also, what distro are you using?

When I hit play it automatically moves to the next file because it can't play the current (since it's an Mp3) and i watch it go through all 3000 songs and not play any of them...
I've done a bazillion things that others have told me to do in order to get Mp3 plug-ins functioning and what not but it never actually ends up working. One error leads to another to another and so on and so on. I'm getting really frustrated.
