In the past I have posted about how I used sound damping material to help quiet my computer. For those who are curious- I used floor cork from Home Depot. It is very cheap and works almost as well as more expensive and smelly solutions like Dynamat.
The thing that made the biggest difference though was switching to an Antec (http://www.antec-inc.com) TruePower power supply. The computer is now whsiper quiet even with four 80mm case fans in addition to the two power supply fans. I now hear my monitor's hum because of how quiet the computer is now. With the windows open, I hear the rustle of the foliage in the breeze.
I have an Athlon XP 2100, Radeon 7500, two hard drives, cdrw, dvdrom, SBLive, and two nics. While not an extreme power user computer, it is going to be producing some heat. With the ambient temperature about 80 degrees F, (don't ya love Florida?) my internal case temp is 85 degrees and my processor is 115 degrees. This is even after the computer been under load doing Folding@home running Q3A for over an hour.
