Im thinking of using my laptop to try out linux and was going to install red hat 8

the question being will my linksys wpc11 v3 wireless pcmcia network card work on it?

i know linksys do have a linux driver however i would not have a clue how to install it

:(

Also if it can be made to work will it support WEP as the router has this turned on and i don't have the access permissons to turn it of, nor would i wish to.

It should work judging from these JL forum search results for 'linksys wpc11' (http://justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=404644&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) and you can also try searching Google for Linux ( www.google.com/linux ) as you will find tutorials/guides to help you in setting up the Linksys wpc11.

This is what I use on my laptop with Red Hat 8 and I didn't need to load anything extra...just edited a few files.

The WPC11 v3 uses an Orinoco chip and will work with these modules.

modprobe hermes
modprobe orinoco
modprobe orinoco_cs

You can easily find a site to find out which files need editing, but the modules are the main thing you'll need.

No problem as it's that I don't know as I do not have any wireless devices.

I have however seen plenty of previous threads on the subject here at JL and also tutorials etc. during my Google for Linux searching career.

I have gotten the linksys wireless card to work, a long time ago the the eariler verisons. I think recently linksys has the driver for the card to on their site.
