Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : xine and red hat 8.0
I am a newbie. I have Red hat 8.0 and installed xine 0.9.8 rpm. When playing divx / mpegs, has sound but no image :( I'm sure is a codec problem but i don't know what to do. I installed tons of rpms with codecs, and nothing works. A help would be appreciated :)
Thanks !
I installed divx4linux501 only. The sound plays but still no image. The movie screen appears blue. :(
Anyone knows how to solve the problem ?
Thanks :)

I installed my copy of Xine using apt-rpm......i don't remember what else it installed but i get no problems.
If you haven't used apt-rpm for RH8 then you should look into it..........it's a big help for situations like this.

You probally need the win32 codecs? You can get them from the download page at www.mplayerhq.hu and they need to be extracted to /usr/lib/win32 (I think that's the right directory)
Apt-get for Red Hat 8 is very nice for this also ;)
ftp://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/apt/redhat/
Thanks a lot for the help :D
By the way, how do i install xine using apt ?
Thanks once again ;)

Install the apt RPM
apt-get update (updates the sources file)
apt-get install xine (will install Xine and all dependancies
umm...that's it :D
Also for a nice GUI front end for it...
apt-get install synaptic
To there are also functions in apt-get to fix any broken installs, I can't remember the command line for this, but synaptic is very easy to use for this.
Still no image. The movie image area still appears blue. :( :(
I'm desperating here :( :( :(
Now i reinstalled red hat 8.0. Didn't installed any codecs/xine, etc yet.
Anyone that can watch divx in redhat with xine could tell all steps that i should follow to watch divx in red hat 8.0 using xine?
My system is:
P4 1,8
256 ram
Creative Ge force mx 440
Sblive 1024 player
Red Hat Linux 8.0
Thanks :)

I have the same problems some times, try moving the progress tab forward while playing a movie. The tab that moves along as the movie plays, try moving it forward a notch, see if an image appears.
