Hello all, I have my website running off of my linux box in my room, and it is also the ftp/mail server for the domain. My question is, if it is the same box for the web server/mail server, do i just put domain.com as my mx record? All of the examples i have found say mail.domain.com. I just have domain.com. Is this do-able?
Thanks,

Yes that will work fine. The reason they usually have mail.domain.com is usually big ISPS have different servers for mail. Just enter 0 yourdomain.com for MX..

The RFC's make clear that you have to have an MX record. Then, they say, in the absence of one, just deliver the mail to the domain. Many of us don't have 2 boxes, and no one to back us up when we are down. Hence, the absence of MX records. This domain has been running 2 years, taking it's own mail just fine with no MX record at all. That may be about to get better. A pal just got DSL, and we want to back each other up, so maybe we finally be "legal" in that regard. Ray
