I did a search for this topic and didn't se anything. So I hope I'm not repeating a standard question.

I'm trying to install 'drake 7.2 on my new computer
<Gloat> 1 Gig Athlon, 256 Meg Ram, Guillemot Prophet II GTS 64Meg video, 20Gig Maxtor and 30Gig IBM deathstar ATA 100 drives. Pioneer CD/DVD slot load drive. Acer CDRW drive. 300 watt Blue Gemstone case. Triple boot to Win 98, Win 2k, and Linux.
</Gloat>

But the 'drake installation doesn't "see" the ATA 100 drives. I know ATA 100 isn't so new that Linux can't understand it. If there's no fix for Mandrake is there another distro that anyone can recommend that DOES understand ATA 100 drives?

I need this set up A.S.A.P. for work. (Yes, I write code in Java on Linux boxes for work. How cool is that?).

Thanks.

Hmm, now I don't know anything about it but the newest kernel (2.4.1) probably has support for it.

Check on Mandrake's site, I believe there was something about ATA 100 drives. Do a search. Hope this helps. Or maybe it was mandrakeuser.org. Can't quite remember. Must be this old age thing. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I'll do some more searching. Upgrading the kernel wouldn't help because it's the install script, that can't see the drives. If I find something I'll let you know.

Thanks for the mandrakeuser reference. I didn't know about that one.

I have the same IBM drive... had the same problem.. go here, really simple and quick fix, Mandrake supports it, their installer just doesn't auto detect it for some reason:
