Hello
I'm trying to install Linux Red Hat 6.2. I installing it on a Newly built PC. It only has DOS installed on it. I set the BIOs to Boot from the Linux CD. It boots then i recieve a Screen that as if I want to US GUI to install or expert and so on. So I pick GUI. Then it starts to run. Then I get a Message that states 387 failure: attemp to reset. This goes on until i have to turn the PC off to retart it. Then I decide that it's a hardware Problem so I choose the Expert Mode which is suppose to let me install the Driver later on in the installation process. Well I still get the same Message. I'm stuck at this point. I cked out the HCL on the Red Hat Linux Website. All the hardware is compatible. So can anyone give me some help. I can be reached at hines24@hotmail.com or you can post a reply here.

Maybe you could try to set in the BIOS the the OS isn't PnP aware (Linux isn't PnP) and try to create the boot disk ...

And try doing a text install.

ok guys well I turned off the PnP feature in the BIOs It still isn't working. Here the Message I get
387 Failed:trying To Reset
I get this after Checking 386\387 Coupling.
I Have another system that is running Win2K
So I Tried loading Linux on that system it went pass the Problem that I'm having on the other system with no problems. So I know that it's the PC. Know only difference in the two system or the Hard Drive and CD-Rom. The Hard Drive is a IBM 10GB, The CD-Rom is a Aston 52x. So does this help you guys out with my problem.

Well i think what you should do is try doing the text mod . that should work but , check to see if everything in your machine is plug in right. check your memory first and them your video card and so on .

let me know if it works.

Hello I thought about the hardware issue Everthing is set up on the system just fine. I installed Win2K on the system to check out the hardware. It worked just fine. I can't get pass the one Screen that Red Hat gives you when it ask you to chose text mode, GUI Mode, Expert Mode. Which ever one I pic it goes to a screen that start to check out my hardware which I think it is doing. Then It start checking my system. then it gives me the Error Message that states (387 Fail: Trying to reset). This message goes on and on I have to shut down the PC to get it to stop. I'm Very tired of this. I know it a Hardware Issue but I'm Having Problem Tracking which Hardware. Ok Guy I Need your help. Read the last Messages you all have good ideals, But my Problem is After I choose Text, GUI, or expert mode. that is as far as I get. I need to now where can I get idea on Error Codes, Error messages or a Number from Red Hat for Information.

what're the specs on this PC? Specifically the CPU... it sounds like it's checking for a 386 processor, but can't reset it... so my guess would be off-hand that you have a bad cpu and need to replace it... windows may let you slide by with shotty equipment, but linux won't...

Ok I'm Using a Celeron Processor. The Mother board is reading it as a Pen3. That mean that the Board is not Supporting the Celeron on the system. But The system is working The Celeron Chip is New and so is the Board. Linux Supports both the Celeron chip and the Board. I'm using a AMI Board speed is 100. The processor speed is 600. My Board supports up to 533 of that. Is that a problem. Like I stated before It is reading Pen 3 not Celeron.

I found out my Problem. It was my Processor. By it not matching the board speed It wasn't working with Linux. So I will have to go out and find a Processor that is suitable to my board. Thank you guys for your help. :)
