Yahoo! I think I almost have Samba bent to my will! I have just one major hurdle that still stands in my path?Logins

On a Windows 98 box: I have a user whose name and password are identical to the user name and password on a Redhat Linux server running Samba.

Ok, cool, when I am logged in under that name in Windows, I can see everything that I have shared in my workgroup, DRAFT.

My last hurdle is trying to log in to the server and access individual user accounts without logging into windows.

For example: A lab has 20 Windows 98 machines, all connected to a Samba server. What I want is for any registered user **on the server** to be able to log in from any of the 20 workstation and access their own private directory. I don?t want to have to make 20 accounts for 20 people on the server and on each individual Windows 98 machine.

This is like logging into these forums, you can log into them from anywhere in the world, and all your logon info is stored on the remote machine.

How can this be done? Should I try to setup the server as a domain? Oh, I am using Swat.

Many Thanks!

Hi,
We have a Suse server that we setup, which allows user logins from any machine. with their login name and password.
so the profiles are created when user logins to a different workstation. Check out http://www.phonax.com for a complete how to on setting up a Windows NT like logon server.
there are perl scripts that he provides, and login bat files.
the exact url: http://www.phonax.com/fileservers/smblogonserver.shtml
Good Luck!
