I have installed Linux RPMs before, so I doubt this is due to syntax errors...

Ok, I installed RedHat 8.0 on my computer the other day, and I selected "All Packages." This is because previous installations resulted in having to go back and basically install Linux manually via the command line. So just to be safe, I installed everything, and put up with the two hour install time.

Anyway, this is my problem. Whenever I begin to install an RPM, be it in GNOME or the terminal, I get a blank line. IE:

[root@localhost Ebon]# rpm -i alsa-driver*

And nothing it happens. It just freezes. Ctrl-c does not stop it as it should either. Installing in gnome seems to have the same effect. I right click the rpm, open with->install packages. Nothing, almost as if I never ran it to begin with.

Could somebody please tell me whats going on?

It had happened to me as well, but worked after the next reboot. Some things are just meant to be weird. :)
