Thanx Derango 09-29-2001, 07:16 AM I don't use KDE, but I'll give this a shot. You need to decompress the tar.gz file. Its like a zip file for linux. In order to do that, you need to open the console, go to the directory where the tar.gz file is located, and type tar xvfz <filename> That should decompress the file and give you the ktheme file that you need. XentriX 09-29-2001, 07:28 AM Cheers, but ive tried that, all it does is extract all the files into a folder..not of them is called theme either ;o( Derango 09-29-2001, 08:24 AM Interesting...anyone else have any ideas? XentriX 09-29-2001, 08:45 AM Failing KDE andone know how to install themes for gnome ? Derango 09-29-2001, 10:51 AM Gnome is easy! All you need to do is go into the gnome controll panel, pick the themes section then hit the button to add a theme. That will import the tar.gz file directly, decompress it, put it in the right spot and then show the theme in the list of availible themes. XentriX 09-29-2001, 02:09 PM hehe.. I knew u was gonna say that, but was hoping that u wouldnt...Thats exactly what I tried before I posted my last post....Didnt add the theme to the list ;o( Its the Matrix theme..is there any known problems with it does anyone know? :( Derango 09-29-2001, 03:10 PM Did you ever consider that maybe you wern't meant to use themes? ;) Roy Smith 09-29-2001, 03:48 PM have you tried just putting the new theme file(s) into the directory with the other kde themes? obviously, i haven't added any kde themes, either. XentriX 09-29-2001, 05:51 PM When u look for the themes in KDE they are 'file'.theme .. the theme I have downloaded isnt the same format, its just loads of files..u know, kinda like a windows theme.. So im afraid that wouldnt work.. Maybe I am not meant to use them after all...lol  SLCDJM 09-29-2001, 06:06 PM Originally posted by XentriX: <STRONG>How do u add downloaded themes in mandrake 8 .. in theme manager there is no import to import the Tar.gz file .. just an add button that looks for a ktheme file ??? Thanx</STRONG> Hey, I use Mandrake 8.0 also. I had exactly the same prob last month. When you untar your tarball, do it in this directory: /home/[user_name]/.kde/share/apps/kthememgr/THemes THen when you go into the Theme Mgr, your new theme will show up. Hope this helps.. ~SLCDJM  rattus 09-29-2001, 07:50 PM IIRC, rename the *.tar.gz file to *.ktheme, and the theme manager will handle all the extraction etc. _do not_ ask me why they did this. XentriX 09-29-2001, 07:56 PM Thanx for all ur help everyone.. Solution is (For anyone else stuck on this) Save the downloaded file as it is to the path that SLCDJM stated, it is then accessable as a theme from Theme Manager ! Cheers :D :D rattus 09-29-2001, 09:08 PM Kewl - bear in mind that the path mentioned will only make the theme available to the single user who's home directory it's in. There is a global theme resource location - but I don't remember where. obidiah 10-01-2001, 12:39 PM I think the global location is: /usr/share/themes/ justlinux.com
