hi, im looking to get adsl and have decided to use a PCI Modem.

Im running mandrake 9.0:) on a pentium 166MXX. I was wondering whether pci adsl modems are supported under mandrake 9??, and also what would be a good brand??

Thanks in Advance

Check Mandrake's HCL.

However, you're very likely going to have a LOT better luck getting an Ethernet DSL modem working... they at least all use the same "driver" (PPPoE or PPPoA; sometimes even none), as opposed to the PCI card versions where you need a different driver for EVERY modem...

Why do you want the PCI version again?

I totally agree with bwkaz, it makes way more sense to use an external ADSL modem, they're small enough to fit on top of your comp or between the tower and a wall so unless there's specific size issue, I would invariably use external modem running to a PCI Ethernet card. Especially in winbloze, there's always that extra driver issue that can be easily removed from the picture by going external. From purely the driver stand point its not worth it.

Although just from general troubleshooting experience its best probably get the 3com interal. The Daewoo one is more unstable from what I've seen.

Oh wait a sec... just checked out 3com's site and it doesn't appear they offer or support Linux drivers. I didn't check Daewoo but I doubt it.

Beyond that I'm not sure of any other names, but i'd just buy external and get a NIC.
