Havin' problems here, trying to install a DVD player, tried Xine, ogle, and a couple others and none of them work, and now I log into GNOME and get windows with "x"s up and the toolbar is at the top of the screen.

I also can't uninstall by RPM "rpm -e whatever" the cursor just sits there blinking... This is butt! -Scythe

Sounds like you've messed up gnome as root. Anyhow there is no need for you to log into gnome as root. If you need to do anything as root, log into gnome as your normal user, open up a consol and su - to root. That way you can't mess up gnome or anything else u don't want to.

As for your rpms, it sounds like your rpm database has become corrupted, I had a simular problem on Mandrake some years back.

I think rebooting fixed it for me, but if that doesn't work, firstly search on www.google.com/linux and see if you can find anything about rebuilding the rpm database. The other thing you could try is to install a new version of rpm.
