hi i'm a totaly nebie with linux and have a problem compiling my alc650 audio drivers


when i type make install i get this error :
[root@localhost alsa-driver-0.9.0rc5]# make install

if [ ! -d include/sound -a ! -L include/sound ]; then \
ln -sf ../alsa-kernel/include include/sound ; \
fi
ln: creating symbolic link `include/sound' to `../alsa-kernel/include': Operation not permitted
make: *** [include/sound/version.h] Error 1
[root@localhost alsa-driver-0.9.0rc5]#

i have mandrake linux 8.2 kernel 2.4.18-6mdk


if anyone can help.......

You likely do not have the kernel source installed.

Have a look at what I posted in this thread (http://justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90597&highlight=kernel+source) earlier today.

thank's for the help! right now i've got sound on my linux but i have two more things to do. first i do not exacly know how to enable 5.1 speakers sound and second i have a winmodem (from lucent electronics) to configure but i think that this will be a dificult one!.

anyway ....

Sorry as I have no idea if the ac650 support 5.1 sound in Linux. You could try searching Google for Linux.

Also search the JL forums for lucent and you will find suggestions to help.

www.linmodems.org is a good start.
