I have the Asus A7V with the promise ATA100 controller. Is there a linux driver for this controller. Also I have an extra 3.2 hd on the ATA100 that I would like to dual boot. Is there any way that I could just install Linux on the 3.2 drive which is currently drive (G) formated with NTFS 5 and dual boot that way. I'm really not that familiar with setting up something like this. I've set up a dual boot before just using one drive and LILO, which I didn't like to much. Because last time I tried linux LILO kept messing up for some reason. I just would like to be able to use the smaller drive to install Linux on so that I wouldn't have to mess with the other drive holding Win2k. Also is there a way to speed up my 56k under linux. I could only download at a max of around 1k a sec. The modem is a Diamond Multimedia Supra Express External serial port based modem. I tried other settings but it still wouldn't download fast.

I have the same motherboard and I really don't feel like going through all that controller crap to get duel boot working. I would however suggest that you put the HD's in the Primary or Secondary IDE controllers instead of the ATA-100 ones. This will most deffinately show a lack in speed but I would guess this would be much easier for linux to put up with.

I posted a couple of URLs in this forum within the last week or so that tell how to set up ATA100 drives. I also added in a link that shows how to dual boot windows 2K and Linux, although the same technique works for win98 and Linux as well.
Do a quick search and you'll find the references. It shouldn't be more than 7 or 8 days ago I put this up.
Hope it helps.

both hd's are set to master. I was just hoping I could choose which one to boot to...ex..Hd 1 has Win2k.....Hd2 just has music on it. I was just gonna put linux on the extra drive that holds the music.
