certain problems with mplayer

there are certain issues that i have with mplayer.
one of them is with the xv driver. it resizes fine, but the subtitles get smudged on the movie (looks pretty weird)
the other driver, x11 shows subs just fine, but i cannot resize it.

does anyone have a solution to any of these probs?

Don't know the exact solutions to your problems but my xv problem was solved by installing the radeon ati driver from http://gatos.sourceforge.net/

If you can, try getting the latest driver for you card, or try using the xvidix driver if that's an option for you.
