This is actually a follow-through from my previous post at http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014518.html about dual-boot. (The same old Dual-Boot problem: Laptop locks up at "loading dos")
After trying the various suggestions, (without successs). I was going to try fdisk /mbr or even to the extent of reinstalling windows. The problem is that I cannot even boot up using the win98 boot disk! The floppy drive lights up for a few secs and then stops. And the screen remains blank.
I'm very sure that the boot disk is working becoz I used it before. Anyway, I created another boot disk and it still doesn't work. Not even when I tried other boot disks (e.g. Partition Magic etc)
What is wrong? Anyone? This is so weird!

You might have had your bios flashed.. eeks!
( your bios is that chip on your motherboard that controlls the stuff like your floppy and hard drives.. cd drive.. etc..)

I think my floppy is working coz I can still mount it in linux and get files stored on my floppies. My screen is definitely working.
Errr... so what do I do now to salvage the situation?

Hi guys! I spent days trying to solve my prob and finally I think I have got a clue to what has happened (after searching all the support/knowledge base of those programs that I suspected caused the prob). It's probably caused by Partition Magic.
I know quite a few of us use Partition Magic out there. So I'm posting the link here so that others will know what to do. Guess I'm the unfortunate one heh?

As for me, I just have to grit my teeth and go thru the recommended solution and risk losing my partitions *sob*.
Always back up your stuff!!
