Hey guys/girls,
I hear a lot of good stuff about Slackware. What's the main difference with other distro's? I've used Redhat in the past and I'm now using Suse, but I love to experiment a little.
Well I noticed the big difference between RH and Suse (Suse is a really nice and clean distro btw, once you have made your choice of 6 CD's of proggy's hehehe)
Anyway, what's the big deal with Slack?
I'm really curious.
Kind regards,
Olli

I hear it's the most similar to Unix of all the distro's.
I've been real happy with 7.1. Solid, stable.

just throwing in my vote for slackware. i run 7.1 on my desktop and laptop and it rocks.
the biggest difference is it assumes you are somewhat comfortable with linux/unix and don't mind editing config files rather than using less than effective GUI config programs (ahem...linuxconf)

I'm a Debian pimp now, so ... http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/cool.gif Debian http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/cool.gif
I'll grant that it's not the prettiest for newbies, but it's on the same level as Slack in terms of how clean it is (i.e. not a bunch of extra crufty crap slapped on top), and it is heavily customizable. And ... of course, the packaging system is unsurpassed by anything I've ever seen/heard of.

Yah, I've been using Debian for my desktops lately, and its so nice to upgrade with apt-get..
Don't get me wrong.. I use slack7.1 for servers and love it. Actually I like the bsd-style init best, but it does take a bit longer and more attention to upgrade/install/etc..

Slackware is solid like a rock. I use it at home and at work. You just can't go wrong with it!
