Ok here's my problem:

I use my computer for business. I don't keep any important stuff on there like databases and junk like that BUT the programs I use are imperative and the main one is MS Word. I also have StarOffice and from the little I've read from this forum StarOffice is supported in Linux. It's rather buggy though, and I still need MS Word 2000 because the employees are constantly asking me how to do this and that. I also need to run Front Page 2000.

I'm getting an ATI Radeon in two weeks.

So here are two questions:

Can I emulate Microsoft products, mainly the two I mentioned above, and does Linux support the Radeon yet?

Thanks to anyone who answers these questions. (O:

You're not going to be able to run any MS-Office products under Linux. Period. Star Office should be able to handle most Office 2000 documents fine, though.

As for your video card -- well, every VGA video card is supported under Linux. Wait, you mean you want to run X in something higher than 640X480?

Well, I found this:

The Radeon is supported under XFree86 (as Craig said). Use setrage (http://www4.ncsu.edu/~distclai/rage128-howto.html) to set it up (the setrage program works for other ATI cards too).

:: Sorry for wide picture ::
www.winhq.org (http://www.winhq.org) just keep your existing Windows partition, set up a dual boot and use WINE. That is not my screenshot above, but I have done it and it is quick and reliable. And Star Office is very stable and good in Linux, just a little too slow for me.

You can also get a program called vmware. This will actually allow you to run windows under linux. The program acts like a virtual machine (virtual computer) so you can pretty much run any operating system while running linux. I uses so that I can run MS Word, Excell, FrontPage, or any other windows based programs that I want, without bothering with windows emulators. However, I have also heard that people are having some success running MS office apps using codeweaver's wine (windows emulator). I haven't had any success with wine ever, but I also haven't put any effort into it either. Go over to www.vmware.com (http://www.vmware.com) if you want to check out vmware. It is the one sure way to get windows appps to run at the same time with linux.

Tech, I just switched from mandrake 7.0 to Redhat 7.0 and I couldnt be happier about it.The install for rht 7.0 is very painless even when setting your own partitions with disk druid. The only 'problem' if you could callit that, is with mandrake alot of shortcuts are taken to make a newbie's life a bit easier that aren't used in rht. However if I just started using Linux yesterday with Rht 7 being my first distro, I'd be very happy 8-) right now !

Where do you get Codeweaver's WINE? Is that different than winehq.com?

Just curious, but why do you need FrontPage?
