My system is a AMd Duron 800mhz. I have downloaded the i386 ISOz from Red Hat, and have had no luck! My uncle who is a software engineer believes that it is due to the fact that i386 is for Intel-Pentium based systems, and I need to find the ISOz for AMD.
The only ISOz I see on Red Hat is the i386 and the Alpha. I am downloading the Alpha now, b/c Im not sure what else to download, and I can't find anything yet about anything special for AMD systems. Is this right? Is the Alpha what I need rather then the i386?

don't download the alpha, that isn't what you need
the i386 will work fine on your nice duron cpu
good luck! :)
ps, what problem are you having with the i386 iso?

Thanks FoBot! That saves me alot of time. But here is the error message I have been getting when I try to install from the i386 ISO.
Failed to read /modules/module-info
I have no clue what that means or how to fix it. I was doing the GUI installation at first, and then I tried the text based installation, and have recieved this error everytime. What is this problem and how can I fix it? I hope you have the answers for this, I am so ready to make the switch and tell Mr. Gates to kiss my azz!
can anyone help with this error message? :confused:

Maybe the iso you downloaded is corrupt or the cdrom disk you burned is bad.
I am downloading the files again, just in case :(

Duron is indeed a i386 compatiable CPU. Alpha is a whole new story so that was not your problem.
Which version of RH are you getting. I presume it is the newest version. Versions before 6.2 does have problem with non-intel CPU's but it can be easily worked around. The new version should be fine. So ya. Maybe tring another download could fix it.

when downloading .iso's , it is a really good idea to do a "checksum" test to see if the giant file was downloaded without errors, this is called md5sum and there are some purty good instructions for doing it in winders at www.linuxiso.org (http://www.linuxiso.org)
here -> http://linuxiso.org/md5sum.html
Thanks alot guys! I tried the md5sum and I got the 32 character result...the numbers were off from the size of my downloaded ISO. I am assuming that I did everything right with that, and seeing as how I have downloaded this ISO twice from the same server....I will try getting it from somewhere else. Hope this works this time, and thanks alot! :D
