hello all
im attempting to try out debian to find a distro that i like the most, and debian seems to please many users so im giving it a try
im not a linux guru but not a complete newbie either. when i try to install lilo in the mbr, it says cant be isntalled past 1023 cylinder. so then i tried to install it in the /dev/hda2 (where linux is installed ) and says the same thing
so then i say what the hell and attempt to install it on a floppy disk...and it wont accept my floppies!!
to install it in the mbr it recommends i make the 10 mb /boot partition at the beggining of the harddrive, and i want to do this but i dont want to risk losing /dev/hda1 which is windows cause installing all those damn counter strike patches takes forever
so my question (finally):
how can i make a /boot partion without damaging any other partitions OR:
how can i install lilo on a floppy? do i have to format it in a certain way ?
thanks for ANY help or i will go back to slackware..

any ideas ? i konw u guru's can fix this stuff!!

Add "lba32" to the lilo.conf. It's not where you're installing Lilo itself that's a problem, it's the fact that your Linux root partition goes beyond the 1024th cylinder. You just need to enable lba32 mode and everything will work fine.

Don't put LILO in the MBR. Put it on your Linux partition, and mark that partition as the active partition in fdisk.
