I want to install RH Linux 6.1 on my old P166 clunker and learn Linux.
The Primary Master is a 2.1Gig IDE w/a cd-rom slaved to it. The Secondary Master is a 1.2Gig IDE w/no slave. Win98SE is currently on the C: drive, both drives are FAT32.
My plan is to move the Win98 partition over to the Secondary HD with PQ's Partition Magic and Install RH Linux on the Primary HD, and use PQ's Boot Magic 5.0 to dual-boot the system.
Does this sound feasible?? Anyone see any problems with this?? I am a complete newbie to Linux and would appreciate help/insights from others.
Much thanx in advance...

make sure you don't have anything important on there, as many a linuxnewbie has lost the whole winders trying to configure a dual boot
unless that particle magician thingy has something special, winders generally won't boot from a second drive, it has/likes to be on C: (i could be wrong on that one)
if i was you and had nothing i would mind losing on the winders partition. i would try it and then write up the success/failure in the "how i did it forum" but then that is just me, and i don't mind wiping out the whole drive, re-partitioning and trying again (and again, and again ;) )
good luck! :)

Lol :D
On a personal note, i'd reccomend getting RedHat 7. More hardware recognition and stuff. And it aint that bad.

Yeah, I was thinking that Windoze doesn't like booting from anywhere but C:, but PowerQuest's "Boot Magic" is supposed to get around that somehow or the other.
If worse comes to worse, I can always swap the 1.2Gig Secondary Master around and make it the boot drive, with Linux as the Secondary, since it doesn't care where it boots frum. Come to think of it, with Win98 on the C:, them I don't have to worry about drive letters changing. DOH!!
Ah yes, the fun of learning a new Op Sys. Ah well, can't be much worse than when I taught myself DOS 3.3...I hope not. ;)
Peace, regards, etc...

You may be able to install windoze on d and change the active partition in fdisk - not tried it myself though.
I have windows on 1st primary drive C: and linux on second primary drive if that is useful.
I then use LILO to dual boot
